Through the Lens: Sierra STEM Summer Camps

Earlier this year, we shared the story of how Sierra STEM is inspiring the next generation of scientists, engineers, and outdoor leaders by making hands-on STEM education accessible to local youth throughout the Eastern Sierra. (If you missed it, you can read that story here.)

This summer, we sent photographer Nicole Sands to experience Sierra STEM's camps firsthand. From wildlife encounters and geology lessons to wilderness medicine and environmental stewardship, she captured the curiosity, confidence, and joy that define these incredible programs.

Take a look at some of the moments that made this summer unforgettable.

Sports Medicine Camp

Future healthcare professionals got a hands-on introduction to sports medicine through injury assessment, taping techniques, anatomy, and first aid. Campers learned by doing, building confidence while exploring careers in health and human performance.

Trash Camp

What happens to our trash after it leaves the curb? Campers explored waste reduction, recycling, and environmental stewardship while discovering how small actions can make a big difference in protecting the places we love.

Sierra Rock Rangers

The Eastern Sierra is one of the world's greatest geology classrooms. Through hikes, rock identification, and hands-on exploration, campers uncovered the fascinating stories written in the landscape around them.

Spy Camp

Problem-solving, teamwork, and critical thinking took center stage as campers tackled secret missions, cracked codes, and used science and technology to solve real-world challenges.

Access Mammoth Sports Medicine Camp

In partnership with Access Mammoth, campers experienced adaptive recreation and sports medicine through an inclusive, hands-on program that celebrated movement, learning, and the power of community partnerships.

Programs like Sierra STEM are possible because of the generosity of MMCF donors. Together, we're helping local youth discover new passions, build confidence, and develop skills that will last a lifetime.
